Try Award Advisor™

Free app brings clarity to college financial aid decisions

Understanding the full cost of college can be a challenge. That’s why the Louisiana Education Loan Authority (Lela) is making the Award Advisor™ app available to Louisiana students, out-of-state students attending Louisiana institutions and their families.

Award Advisor is a free app for iPhone and Android that helps students and families make sense of often confusing financial aid letters and compare offers with confidence. The app was developed by the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) to help families more fully understand the cost of higher education and what they can truly afford.

Lela, Louisiana’s nonprofit resource for FAFSA completion and college access, is an Award Advisor Network Partner. Its mission is to help make college more affordable and accessible for Louisiana students and families, and the first step is good information. With Award Advisor, families can compare college offers side-by-side to better understand the true cost of high education.

Lela is an Award Advisor Partner Network lender but doesn’t play a role in the operation of the app.

Here’s how to use Award Advisor™:

  1. Download the app onto your iPhone or Android device.
  2. Register with basic information.
  3. Add the colleges you’re considering
  4. Upload your financial letters
  5. Enter how much you or your family can contribute
  6. See comparisons for the real cost of each school

A trusted resource

Award Advisor™ was designed by Lela partner and fellow nonprofit lender, Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, which assists students in its state with grants, scholarships, 529 savings plans and low-cost student loans. The Award Advisor app allows students and families to explore nonprofit-only-loans, but it contains no traditional advertising. Its goal is simply to help students and families make better, more informed financial decisions about college.
